WHO WE ARE
The Abdullah Quilliam Society
We are a small dedicated team whose aim is to restore the First Mosque in England situated at Brougham Terrace, Liverpool. The Mosque was founded by a Victorian English convert to Islam: Abdullah Quilliam in 1887. Did you know that for almost one hundred years this building was used as Liverpool Records of marriages and Births. The staff who worked there used to refer to it as 'The Little Mosque' totally unaware that it was the first mosque in England and its historical value. It is our intention is to reveal the fascinating history behind the mosque, the man: Abdullah Quillam, his aims, ideals and continuing legacy.
THE TEAM
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
PROJECT 2018
Our recent endevour is to restore the original features of the mosque. We have built a purpose built workshop and hired skilled craftsmen to undertake this painstaking task. Were you aware that to restore and replace a Victorian cornice costs about £2500 per room. The Geogian window frames cost around £2000 per window to fully restore and replace them to their original state. We are also in the process of restoring the original cast iron kitchen and staircase leading up to the upper floors.
