Born William Henry Quilliam in 1856, he was a respected solicitor in Liverpool. His encounter with Islam during his travels led him to convert, adopting the name Abdullah. Quilliam’s dedication to his newfound faith earned him recognition as the Sheikh-ul-Islam of the British Isles by the Ottoman Empire.
