Respected Friends, Brothers & Sisters,

Britain’s first mosque was established in 1887 by an Englishman, William Henry Quilliam, who embraced Islam after visiting Morocco and adopted the name Abdullah. This historic mosque was located at 8-12 Brougham Terrace, West Derby Road, Liverpool, L6 1AE. It was closed in 1908 and, after 106 years, it was reopened on 27th June 2014.

When we took over the mosque, only three of the original five buildings were available. We now have a rare opportunity to reclaim a missing piece of our Islamic heritage from over 100 years ago. Our goal is to raise £600,000 to restore AQuiiliam_Lost_Building_Appeal_2024bdullah Quilliam’s original vision, as outlined in his 1889 plans.

We urgently seek the support of our brothers and sisters to help us purchase this lost building, either through donations or by providing Qard Hasan (a benevolent loan). Time is of the essence—if we do not secure the funds by 30th October 2024, the current owner will auction the property, and it will be lost forever.

This building was an integral part of the original mosque where our forefathers prayed in 1887. Please donate generously, whatever you can, and consider giving a loan to the House of Allah to earn immense rewards. The loan will be secured by the trustees of the Abdullah Quilliam Society/Mosque with formal documentation and will be repaid within 12 months.

Please donate using the button below or directly to the mosque’s bank account with your name and reference number “01”:
